Contract Miniature Artists & Fabricators

About the Role

This is not a full-time or salaried position. Artists will work with David Miniatures Studios on an independent contract basis and will be contacted when projects arise that match their particular skills and availability.

Work is completely remote. You must have your own workspace, tools, equipment, and ability to fabricate and ship completed work to David Miniatures Studios.

You will not be asked to create an entire David Miniatures Studios project. Instead, contracted artists will typically be responsible for specific components or elements of a larger build.

Depending on the project, this could include miniature fabrication, model making, painting and finishing, weathering, prop fabrication, scenic work, architectural elements, furniture, accessories, 3D printing and finishing, or other specialized miniature work.

What We’re Looking For

Applicants must:

• Have previous professional or substantial miniature/model-making experience and provide a recent portfolio of work.

• Be located in Canada or the United States.

• Have their own workshop, tools, equipment, and materials required to complete assigned work.

• Be able to consistently produce work to a high professional standard, including clean construction and attention to scale, detail, colour, texture, and finish.

• Be reliable, communicative, and able to meet agreed-upon deadlines.

• Have sufficient availability to accommodate projects that may occasionally have short turnaround times.

Experience and talent are important, but so is availability. While we try to provide as much advance notice as possible, many of our client projects operate on tight production schedules. If your existing workload regularly prevents you from taking on time-sensitive work, this arrangement may not be the right fit.

How Projects Work

When we have a project that fits your skill set, we will provide you with the requirements, references, dimensions, deadlines, and other relevant information.

Before the work is assigned, you will be asked to provide a brief proposal outlining how you intend to fabricate the piece, your estimated turnaround time, and your total price.

Your quoted price must include your labour, materials, supplies, packaging, and shipping costs to David Miniatures Studios.

Once the scope, price, and schedule are approved, a contract will be issued for that specific project.

Confidentiality

Because many of our projects involve unreleased film, television, entertainment, and commercial properties, confidentiality is extremely important.

Contract artists must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) when required, as well as a project-specific work agreement.

Project information, reference materials, client identities, photographs, designs, files, and work-in-progress images may not be shared publicly or privately unless written permission has been provided by David Miniatures Studios.

Credit & Portfolio Use

All contracted work is completed under the David Miniatures Studios brand.

Where permitted by the client and the terms of the project, contributing artists may receive written credit for their work. Permission to publicly share completed work or include it in your portfolio will be determined on a project-by-project basis.
